iQ Pro Wiring Setup and Connection Guide

First A Note on Connections

For optimal performance with iQ Pro, we strongly recommend using Apple-branded adapters wherever possible. While more cost-effective options from third-party vendors like those found on Amazon may work, they require thorough testing, and having backups is essential.

iOS Devices with Lightning Connection

Audio Only Setup

For an audio-only setup, a reliable method is to use an adapter, such as the Belkin model that supports lightning power (to keep your device charged) and offers a minijack output. This can be connected to the house PA system. Being Apple-supported, Belkin adapters are deemed trustworthy for your audio connections.

Audio and Video Setup

For setups requiring both audio and video from a device with a single lightning port, the Apple Lightning to Digital AV Adapter is the only reliable choice. This adapter allows for charging via a lightning cable and provides an HDMI output for connection to projectors or screens.

**Separating Audio ** To separate audio from the HDMI signal, there are two recommended methods:

1. Using an Audio Extractor: This device takes the HDMI signal and splits it into HDMI and minijack outputs. Some models also include EDID management, offering flexibility in display and screen management. 2. Bluetooth Audio Transmission (least recommended): As a backup, audio can be sent via Bluetooth to a receiver that outputs through a minijack. This method is not preferred but serves as a cost-effective backup solution.

Wireless Exporting of Video and Audio ** Wireless Setup with Apple TV**

Running iQ Pro wirelessly offers mobility and reduces cable clutter. Using AirPlay, iQ Pro can connect to the latest generation Apple TV without needing external Wi-Fi networks. The HDMI output from Apple TV can then be connected to your audio extractor, managing audio and video as with wired setups. Success with this setup can depend on the positioning and strength of a closed Wi-Fi network, requiring trial and error to optimize.

Other Wireless Technologies

In larger spaces, consider using high-grade wireless transmitters and receivers, like the Hollyland range, to connect iOS devices directly to projectors or audio systems. These solutions offer robust transmission capabilities suitable for professional environments.

Connecting iQ Pro via USB-C

With newer iPads and iPhones (model 15 and above) featuring USB-C, direct connections to a USB hub open up new possibilities. USB hubs can facilitate connections to HDMI, minijack audio outputs, power sources, and even Ethernet for DMX devices, without needing an audio extractor. They may also support additional USB connections for external cameras. While USB-C hubs tend to be more reliable than non-branded lightning connectors, thorough testing and verification of their compatibility and reliability are crucial.

This guide aims to provide clear instructions and recommendations for setting up your iQ Pro system, ensuring reliable and high-quality show control experiences.
